A DC LEED certified Hotel

First built in 1966, The Concordia was fully rebuilt  in 2013. The Concordia is mindful of its impact on the environment, and has implemented an environmentally conscious approach to the design and construction of the property. In pursuing the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, The Concordia is committed to the highest green principles in the nation in order provide a healthy experience so guests and employees can do and feel their best.

During the design and construction of the Concordia, the project team incorporated many sustainable practices and products such as those with recycled content and those which were harvested or produced locally.  We have reused as many materials as possible to reduce construction waste going to the landfill. All guest room kitchen appliances are Energy Star rated, which means they use less energy than their predecessors. Retreat to the roof top where you will see our green roof and green screen. The green roof reduces rain water runoff from entering local waterways and helps insulate the building from the elements.

We used low VOC paints to improve indoor air quality for guests and staff. Dis you forget to turn off the lights before leaving your room? Card-controlled smart systems for thermostats and lighting reduce wasteful energy consumption. Bathrooms are outfitted with efficient plumbing fixtures and fittings which reduce water consumption.

We promote an easy and robust recycling program which encourages guests to recycle within their guest room as well as in common areas. The Concordia has partnered with the Green Garmento, a sustainable laundry and dry-cleaning service. The Green Garmento uses reusable laundry bags to eliminate single use plastic bags, a common culprit in the Washington, DC watershed. The Concordia uses eco-friendly cleaning materials to do the job with fewer chemicals for clean rooms and better air. Leftover bathroom soaps are recycled and sanitized through a non-profit organization, Clean the World, which has put over 11 million soap bars and 325,000 pounds of shampoo and conditioner back into human use, simultaneously eliminating over 750 tons of waste. Organic fruits and local snacks are available in our lobby, along with organic Wolfgang Puck Coffee.

Connectivity to the local community is important. The Concordia is within walking distance from three Metrorail stations, fourteen bus routes, car and bike sharing stations all within a 3 block radius from the building. The Concordia also offers complimentary bicycles to allow guests to explore the sights or attend meetings within Washington, DC. The Concordia is a walker's paradise, and has received a score of 98 out of 100 from walkscore.com due to its proximity to coffee shops, grocery stores, schools, parks, and banks.

Our vision is to balance comfort and environmental responsibility. Creating and maintaining a green, clean, healthy and comfortable environment for our guests and staff is smart for the present and for the future- because tomorrow begins today.
